IntroductionEvery picture tells a story. Two pictures tell an even more interesting story. In 2011 I came across an old newspaper article in a library that talked about James Dresser. I had never heard about him before. Dresser was a reclusive writer who worked for the newspaper industry and wrote some books. The article was accompanied by two pictures that were supposed to be Dresser as a young man and an older man. I was so struck by their looks that I decided I would have to track them down. It turns out the pictures can still be viewed in a historical archive in upstate New York. I made digital copies of the pictures and looked for copies of Dresser's books. I only found one in an antique store. It was badly worn, probably from being kept in an attic for 100 years. The book had recently been acquired from an estate sale. I wasn't actually looking for the book that day. Providence stepped in and gave me what I wanted. This Website tells you what I have learned about James Dresser. Most of the information came from the old Observer article that set me on my journey of discovery but there are a few facts in the book. |
